What's Happening in Medellín, Week of June 29, 2026

Feria de las Flores dates confirmed, Colombia into the knockout round, and a long festivo weekend to close out June. Here is what mattered the week of June 29, 2026 in Medellín.

Feria de las Flores 2026 runs July 31 to August 9, and the city is already getting busy. The Instituto de Deportes y Recreación de Medellín (INDER) and Alcaldía have confirmed the programme: more than 500 events across 30-plus venues, with around 3,000 artists participating over the ten days. The Desfile de Silleteros, the parade that is the emotional centrepiece of the whole festival, takes place on Sunday, August 9 at 9:00 a.m. on Avenida El Poblado. The concert programme includes Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, and Fuerza Regida, among others. If you are planning to be in Medellín for the Feria, book accommodation now. The weeks of July 31 and August 7 are consistently the most competitive hotel period of the year, and anything in El Poblado and Laureles fills up well in advance. Guided silletero visits and advance tickets for the Desfile sell out faster every year. Colombia Turismo has the programme overview, and the Alcaldía event portal has the full venue-by-venue schedule.

Colombia plays Ghana in the World Cup Round of 32 on Friday, July 3, and the city will feel it. Colombia finished Group K unbeaten: 3-1 over Uzbekistan in Mexico City on June 17 (Daniel Muñoz, Luis Díaz, Jáminton Campaz), 1-0 over DR Congo in Guadalajara on June 23 (Muñoz), and a 0-0 draw with Portugal in Miami on June 27 that sealed first place in the group with seven points. The round of 32 match is in Kansas City. Confirm kick-off time on RCN or Caracol, which are the free-to-air broadcasters. For Medellín, the routine is clear: every sports bar in El Poblado, Provenza, and Laureles will be packed, and the neighbourhood watch parties that started in the group stage will be bigger for the knockout round. Get to a spot early, because Colombia not conceding a goal to Portugal was the story of the group stage and the whole city is riding that. Ghana is a real team but a winnable draw. Futbolred has the Group K standings.

Monday June 29 was San Pedro y San Pablo, a national festivo. The holiday shifted to Monday as usual, giving the city a three-day weekend. Guatapé and the Embalse del Peñol were packed, the Oriente roads were heavy going out Friday and coming back Sunday night, and the city itself ran at a relaxed festivo pace. Banks, government offices, and many non-food shops operated on the festivo schedule or stayed closed. If you had Migración Colombia appointments, tramites, or banking to catch up on, Tuesday was the reset. The next puente on the national calendar: Batalla de Boyacá on August 7, which will extend Feria de las Flores, so mark both dates now.

That was the week. Book your Feria accommodation before it fills. Find a spot for the match on Friday. The second half of 2026 in Medellín is going to be busy.
